Ancient Constantinople (T) w Turcji

Days: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday.

Program duration: 13:30 – 17:00.

The ancient city of Constantinople, now Istanbul, was founded in 330 as the capital of Byzantium, a state formed after the division of the Roman Empire. The new empire lasted 11 centuries until the Ottoman Turks captured Constantinople in 1453. Istanbul has long been a Muslim city with its own culture and traditions, but Christian Byzantium has not disappeared without a trace, leaving behind a rich heritage. On the tour you can see for yourself.

Visit program includes:

  • Chora Monastery of the 5th century, where the Kariye Mosque was located for a long time. Now there is a museum here: under the dome of the ancient temple, frescoes and mosaics of the Byzantine period, hidden for centuries under a thick layer of plaster, miraculously survived.
  • The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople is the center of Orthodoxy, which arose in 330 and operated even during the time of the Ottoman Empire. Among the priceless relics of the Patriarchate are the Holy Icons, the relics and the patriarchal throne of John Chrysostom, the pillar of the scourging of Christ, the relics of Archbishops Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian.
  • The Blachernae Church, built in the 5th century at the foot of the 6th hill of Constantinople to store the relics of the Christian world - the Icon and belt of the Most Holy Theotokos.
  • Golden Horn Bay in the European part of Istanbul with one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. You will drive along the coast, from which it is pleasant to admire the city landscapes
  • Church of the Life-Giving Spring of Balikly Monastery. It was erected on the site of a spring with healing water, which, according to legend, the Byzantine Emperor Leo I the Great pointed out to the Mother of God herself. This place is also called "fish": in the sacred spring you can see red fish, with which many legends are associated.

At the end of the tour, at the request of tourists, a trip to the shopping center is possible.

Included in the price: visiting the Chora Museum, the Patriarchate, the churches of Blachernae and the Life-Giving Spring, the coast of the Golden Horn.
