Palyani Monastery - Gortyna Matala w Grecji

The tour takes place in the southern part of the Heraklion region. It will give you the opportunity to visit the unique, historically valuable monuments and sights of Crete, as well as get acquainted with ancient Greek mythology. Through the city of Heraklion, you will head south and soon you will find yourself in the most ancient monastery of Crete - Assumption monastery Palyani. You will not only get acquainted with its history, bow to the miraculous icons, but also see the centuries-old sacred myrtle tree (1600 years old). Only sincere believers will be able to see the image of the Mother of God in the branches of a tree. The leaves of this tree are used as a medicine and protect from the evil eye.

Continue your journey towards Gortyna, a major archaeological reserve of the island. Visit the early Christian Cathedral of St. Titus, erected in the 7th century by the Roman Odeon, and see the very plane tree under whose branches Zeus and Europe fell in love.

The next stop after Gortys is the winery Zaharyudakis to get acquainted with the process of winemaking and tasting local wines. The tour will end in the “pearl” of the Libyan Sea, Matala, where you will have time to swim in the Libyan Sea and have lunch in a tavern.
