Girona is an ancient city of enchanting beauty, the capital of the province of the same name and the second most important city in Catalonia. The historic center of Girona stands on a high hill above the river Onyar. In the center of the city, fragments of the walls of the ancient Roman city of Girunda have survived to this day. The center of life in the old city is Llibertat Boulevard, which runs along Onyar. Across the river, new quarters begin, which appeared in the 19th and 20th centuries. Narrow medieval streets run up the hill from the boulevard, converging on cozy little squares. And at the very top rises the giant Cathedral, which is considered the most beautiful monument of baroque architecture in Catalonia.
